About Detmer Metals
Decades of Fabrication. Hundreds of Builds. One Standard.
Detmer Metals is led by Damon Detmer, a fabricator with over 30 years of hands-on experience in motorsports, metal shaping, and custom bodywork. What began in a San Antonio workshop grew into a career that shaped championship-winning race cars, award-winning hot rods, and world-class restorations. Today, Detmer Metals takes on projects that demand experience, accuracy, and follow-through. No shortcuts, no guesswork, just the right tools and the skill to use them.
A Fabricator’s Path
Damon started fabricating professionally in 1992 as an R&D technician at Vintage Air, the pioneers of hot rod air conditioning. He went on to build high-end customs at the Bob McCall Company before heading to North Carolina in 1995 to join the fast-paced world of NASCAR. For nearly two decades, Damon worked in elite racing, building and shaping cars for teams chasing Cup Series titles. There, he honed his approach to metal shaping, learned the value of clean, functional design, and developed an eye for aerodynamic performance.
In 2013, he shifted focus toward coachbuilding, fulfilling a longtime goal of working on collectible, high-quality cars with timeless lines and exacting standards. Since then, he’s applied his racing background to every restoration, replica, and custom build that comes through the shop.
